生長休止基因7（gas7）及其產物參與神經細胞分化生長及腫瘤細胞生長、凋亡調控等過程，可通過穩定細胞骨骼并促使其延長誘導神經細胞的分化生長。另外，突變的gas7則參與腫瘤細胞的生長和凋亡的調節，但具體的分子調控機制仍不清楚，因此逐步研究gas7及其產物在這些調控過程中的作用就顯得尤為重要。
