Eugene Garfield是美國著名的文獻信息檢索專家.他從一個普通用戶的觀點,提出如何高效率檢索最新信息的問題,并匠心獨運地將引文索引與文獻評價有機結合,創造了garfield原理,創建了SCI評價體系和美國科學信息研究所,并擔任首任主席.帶領他的團隊,經過半個世紀拼搏,使SCI在其他文獻索引工具中脫穎而出,被公認為是科學信息交流和信息科學的革命性創造.本文通過簡述引文檢索與信息科學領域發展史來介紹他充滿傳奇色彩的一生.
