        • Investigation of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Expression in Colorectal Cancer

Objective To establish a stable colorectal cancer model in liver specific insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 deficient (LID) mice and examine the potential relationship between IGF-1 level and risk of mice constitutional colorectal cancer. Methods ①Establishment of a colorectal cancer model: The LID mice, in which IGF-1 level in circulation was 25% of BALB/c mice. Induction of colorectal cancer was achieved by using the 1,1 Dimethylhydrazine (DMH) with hypodermic injection at transverse part. ②Eighty fresh samples of cancer tissues and adjacent tissues were obtained from LID mice (experimental group) and BALB/c mice (control group). The expression of IGF-1 was studied by immunohistochemical assay (SP method). Results ①Weight loss occurred in both experimental group and control group after injection. Compared with the body weight before injection on 18 weeks and 24 weeks in each group, there were significant differences after injection at the same phase in each group (P<0.05). ②The results of IGF-1 expression in cancer tissues and adjacent tissues: IGF-1 got a diffuse distribution in cancer cell cytoplasm. The positive expressions of IGF-1 in the cancer tissues and their adjacent cancer tissues were 6/7, 2/7 and 13/16, 7/16 respectively in experimental group and control group. There were significant differences between the cancer tissues and adjacent tissues inside both groups (P<0.05). There were no significant differences inside both of cancer tissues and adjacent tissues respectively between experimental group and control group (Pgt;0.05). Conclusion In the established colorectal cancer model by DMH, IGF-1 plays an important role in the development and progression of colorectal cancer.

        • Assessment on Curative Effect of Peritoneal Drainage Tube Fixation with Titanium Clamp in 210 Patients During Laparoscopic Operation

Objective To investigate the curative effect of peritoneal drainage tube fixation with titanium clamp in 210 patients during laparoscopic operations. Methods The clinical data of 210 patients with peritoneal drainage fixation via titanium clamp during laparoscopic operations in this hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Results In 210 patients, drainage tube placement lasted for 5-20 d with an average of 8.5 d. No complications such as drainage tube drifting, position changing or obstructed drainage occurred, and all the patients were successfully extubated. Conclusion During laparoscopic operations, the method that drainage tube fixed with titanium clamp is simple with reliable drainage results, affirmed curative efficacy and obviously decreased operative complications, which is worthy of clinical practice and generalization.

        • Study on the economic burden of hospital-acquired influenza patients

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of hospital-acquired influenza. Methods Medical records of inpatients admitted to West China Hospital, Sichuan University from 2020 to 2023 were retrospectively collected to analyze the three-distribution (temporal, spatial and population). Propensity score matching combined with generalized linear model were adopted to compare the differences in length of hospital stay and various medical expenses between the hospital-acquired influenza group and the control group, so as to explore the impacts of hospital-acquired influenza on the length of hospital stay and medical costs of inpatients. Results A total of 970 366 hospitalized patients were included, among whom 588 hospitalized influenza cases were enrolled, including 175 cases of hospital-acquired influenza and 413 cases of community-acquired influenza. A control group of 175 cases was matched using propensity score matching. The hospitalization duration [19.00 (13.00, 35.00) vs. 10.00 (6.00, 16.50) days, P<0.001] and total medical expenses [34 764.13 (17 851.96, 110 687.64) vs. 14 769.48 (8 028.96, 37 123.71) yuan, P<0.001] of hospital-acquired influenza patients were higher than those of the control group. The results of the generalized linear models showed that hospital-acquired influenza could prolong hospitalization duration (P<0.001) and increase total hospitalization costs (P<0.001). Conclusions Hospital-acquired influenza significantly prolongs the length of hospital stay and increases medical expenditures of inpatients, which greatly aggravates the disease burden of patients and medical institutions. Therefore, medical institutions should attach importance to the prevention and control of influenza virus in hospitals to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired influenza.

        • Clinical characteristics of dengue fever cases in a large general hospital located in a dengue fever category Ⅱ area

Objective To understand the clinical characteristics of dengue fever cases in a large general hospital located in a dengue fever category Ⅱ area, and to provide scientific evidence for formulating dengue fever prevention and control strategies for similar medical institutions. Methods The dengue fever case data reported by West China Hospital of Sichuan University between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2024 were retrospectively collected, and their clinical characteristics were analyzed. Results A total of 56 dengue fever cases were reported, with the majority being confirmed cases (76.79%) and no deaths. Among the confirmed cases, there was one severe case. The primary department for initial diagnosis was emergency department, followed by fever clinic. Most cases were mild, and patients were treated with oral symptomatic medications and observed at home. The seasonal distribution of dengue fever cases was evident. The male-to-female ratio was 0.93∶1, with an average age of 34.07 years. The majority of cases were in the commercial service sector. There were no local cases, 55 were imported cases, and 1 case, which was the only severe dengue fever case, may have been transmitted through non-mosquito vectors. Conclusion In dengue fever category Ⅱ areas, large general hospitals should prioritize the early identification of imported dengue fever cases and implement standardized treatment for these cases, to prevent the risk of local transmission caused by the importation of dengue fever outbreaks.
