        • Management experience of radiology department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University in fighting against coronavirus disease 2019

          Coronavirus disease 2019 that started in Wuhan, Hubei Province in December 2019, has spread rapidly across China. Radiography provides an important basis for clinical diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 and plays a crucial role in fighting against the epidemic. In the face of public health emergencies, how to quickly set up a team for accurate prevention and control in the first time and how to carry out radiological examination and diagnosis ina scientific, orderly, safe and efficient manner are the key measures to support the hospital in effectively responding to the epidemic. This paper summarized the innovative management experience of the radiology department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University in the prevention and control of nosocomial infection and discipline construction in the fight against the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019.

        • Efficacy of team-based learning pedagogy in the application of radiology education: a meta-analysis

          ObjectiveTo systematically review the efficacy of the application of team-based learning (TBL) pedagogy and traditional lecture-based learning (LBL) pedagogy in radiology education.MethodsPubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, WanFang Data, CNKI and VIP databases were electronically searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the application of TBL and LBL pedagogy in radiology education from inception to March 31st, 2020. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias of included studies; meta-analysis was then performed by using Stata/SE 16.0 software.ResultsA total of 11 RCTs involving 721 participants were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that TBL significantly improved students’ theoretical assessment scores (SMD=1.70, 95%CI 1.05 to 2.36, P<0.001), practical assessment scores (SMD=2.00, 95%CI 1.02 to 2.98, P<0.001), preference to the curriculum design (RR=1.53, 95%CI 1.19 to 1.97, P=0.001), agreed to more effective promotion in aspects of teamwork ability (RR=2.46, 95%CI 1.69 to 3.59, P<0.001), self-directed learning ability (RR=2.41, 95%CI 1.33 to 4.39, P=0.004), and clinical practice ability (RR=2.09, 95%CI 1.46 to 3.00, P<0.001) compared with LBL pedagogical method. However, no significant difference was found in the subjective evaluation of theoretical knowledge between two pedagogies.ConclusionsCurrent evidence shows that TBL pedagogy based on active learning and team cooperation has obvious advantages over traditional LBL mode in radiology education. Due to limited quality and quantity of the included studies, more high-quality studies are needed to verify above conclusions.

        • Analysis of clinical radiographic features and treatment of interstitial lung disease patients infected with influenza virus

          ObjectiveTo analyze the clinical radiographic features and treatment of interstitial lung disease (ILD) inpatients infected with influenza virus. MethodsThe clinical data of ILD patients with influenza in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from October 2023 to January 2024 were collected. According to each patient results of influenza nucleic acid detection, they were divided into an influenza infection group and a non-infection group. ResultsA total of 73 patients received influenza nucleic acid detection were enrolled, 23 cases including 5 males and 18 females were positive. Twenty-one cases were infected with influenza A virus, 2 cases were infected with influenza B virus. The median age of influenza positive patients was 64.7±7.8 years. Cough (23 cases, 100.0%), sputum (23 cases, 100.0%), wheezing (20 cases, 87.0%) and fever (17 cases, 73.9%) were the most common symptoms of the patients infected with influenza. Compared with the non-infection patients, fever was more common in the influenza infection group (P<0.05). Laboratory examination indicated that lymphocytopenia were detected in the influenza infection patients. There was no statistical difference in the level of white blood cell count, neutrophil count, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, calcitonin, interleukin-6 and oxygenation index. Ground glass opacity in the influenza virus infection group was more common than that in the non-infection group (P<0.05). Ten ILD patients infected with influenza virus (43.5%) were co-infected with Aspergillus. The chest CT type of ILD patients with Aspergillus infection was usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Honeycombing was more common than those without Aspergillus infection group (P<0.05). Twenty-two patients (95.7%) received antiviral treatment, of which 20 patients (87.0%) were treated with oseltamivir, 5 patients (21.7%) were treated with mabaloxavir, and 4 patients (17.4%) were treated combined with paramivir. Seventeen patients (73.9%) were previously treated with glucocorticoids, and 16 patients did not adjust the glucocorticoids dosage; 9 patients (39.1%) were previously treated with immunosuppressants, and 2 patients stopped immunosuppressants. Four patients (17.4%) infected with influenza virus developed acute exacerbation of ILD. There was no statistically significant difference in acute exacerbation between the two groups (P>0.05). ConclusionsCompared with ILD patients not infected with influenza, fever, lymphocytopenia and ground-glass opacity are the common clinical and chest CT features of ILD patients infected with influenza. Patients with UIP type combined with honeycomb were prone to be co-infected with Aspergillus infection.

        • Imaging Assessment for Perioperative Period of Liver Transplantation

          Objective To review the value of imaging assessment for perioperative period of liver transplantation. Methods The related literatures in recent years were reviewed, and the applications of various kinds of radiological techniques in perioperative period of liver transplantation and radiological strategies of major complications after liver transplantation were summarized. Results Transplantation has become an effective option for treatment of patients with irreversible severe liver dysfunction. Radiological assessment supplies prompt and accurate information for clinic to increase the success rate and reduce the complications. So it plays an irreplaceable role. Conclusions Radiology assessment is important for screening donors and recipients before liver transplantation, following up and monitoring the complications. The doctor of imaging department could grasp the different imaging appearance in perioperative period of liver transplantation.

          Objective To review the value of imaging assessment of stem cell transplantation in treatment for liver cirrhosis.Methods The related literatures in recent years were collected,and the applications of different radiological techniques and strategies of stem cell transplantation in treatment for liver cirrhosis were summarized.Results Stem cell transplantation in treatment for liver cirrhosis was feasible and effective. Radiological assessment could supply the prompt and accurate information for clinic to choose the proper therapeutic method.The curative effect could also be accurately assessed by radiological techniques.Conclusion Radiological examination is important for the assessment of stem cell transplantation in treatment for liver cirrhosis.

        • Comprehensive Quantitative Interpretation of Radiologic Features of Lung Adenocarcinoma Showed as Ground-glass Opacity

          Lung ground glass opacity (GGO), which is associated with the pathology of the lung adenocarcinoma, is drawing more and more attention with the increased detection rate. However, it is still in the research stage for the imaging interpretation of GGO lesions. In this paper, we reviewed and analyzed the new classification of lung adenocarcinoma corresponding to the interpretation of GGO imaging feature, which emphasizes on how to determine the GGO lesions comprehensively and quantitative determination of the invasive extent of GGO.

        • Clinical, pathological, and radiological characteristics of 328 solitary ground-glass opacity lung nodules on high-resolution computed tomography

          ObjectiveTo analyze the clinical, pathological, and radiological characteristics of solitary ground-glass opacity nodules (SGGN) of the lungs on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT).MethodsA total of 328 resected SGGN were evaluated with HRCT from January 2008 to March 2018. The clinical, pathological, and radiological characteristics of these cases were analyzed.ResultsThree hundred and twenty-eight adenocarcinomas were observed. Patients with adenocarcinoma in non-smoking women (230, 70.1%) were more than men (98, 29.9%). All SGGN were at the stage IA or IB. Forty-eight patients (all were male) had smoking history, 19 patients with a history of cancer, and 60 patients had a family history of cancer, which including 32 patients with family lung cancer history. However, elevated blood tumor markers were rare in patients. The adenocarcinoma nodules included 10 (3.0%) atypical hyperplasia (AAH), 43 (13.1%) adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), 71 (21.6%) minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and 204 (62.2%) invasive adenocarcinoma (IPA). The positive expression rates of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK-V), proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase ROS (ROS-1) and programmed death ligand 1 (PDL-1) were 4.2% (6/143), 13.9% (20/144) and 17.8% (13/73), respectively. HRCT showed that there were 149 (45.4%) pure SGGN and 179 (54.6%) mixed SGGN, and the most common lesion was the superior lobe of right lung (138, 42.1%). The size, density, shape, and pleural tag of nodules were significant factors that differentiated IPA from AAH, AIS and MIA. All patients were followed up for an average of 3.32 months. All patients underwent surgical excision and no recurrence or metastasis of the tumor had occurred.ConclusionsThe size, density, shape, and pleural tag of SGGN on HRCT are found to be the determinant factors of IPA. Additionally, patients were all at the early clinical stage, and have high survival rate after surgical removal of the nodules. Moreover, the positive expression rate of ALK-V, ROS-1 and PDL-1 are very low in patients with SGGN.
