ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical characteristics of 40 patients with ocular toxocariasis (OT) on the first attendance.
MethodsA total of 40 consecutive patients who were clinically and serologically diagnosed with OT were retrospectively reviewed.
ResultsThe mean age of patients was (12.12±10.42) years. There were 29 males and 11 females. 29 cases presented with decreased vision, 4 children with leukocoria, 2 cases with strabismus and 5 cases was found abnormal during regular eye examination. Initially 8 eyes (20%) were misdiagnosed as retinoblastoma (1 eye), Coat's disease(1 eye), cataract (2 eyes), iridocyclitis (2 eyes) and retinal detachment (2 eyes). 23 eyes had retinal detachment, 19 eyes had cataract. OT was the initial diagnosis for 15 patients (37.5%). The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were NLP to 0.7. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) were performed in 29 eyes, and identified peripheral granulomas in 23 eyes and adjacent tractional retinal detachment in 12 eyes. We also identified 17 cases (68.0%) with elevated IgE level among 25 patients with positive serological antibody test.
ConclusionsTractional retinal detachment, vitreous opacities and cataract are the common clinical findings at the first attendance of OT patients. The adjunctive test of serum total IgE level may be helpful for the diagnosis. The application of UBM and specific IgG detection in serum and intraocular fluid, can also improve the diagnosis.
Objective
To systematically review the effect of mobile phone management applications (APP) on biological and biochemical parameters in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods
We electronically searched databases including PubMed, EMbase, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, WanFang Data, CBM, CNKI for randomized controlled trials compared mobile phone APP as interventions for managing T2DM with traditional methods from inception to September 30th 2016. Two researchers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies. Then, meta-analysis was conducted using Stata 12.0 software.
Results
A total of 10 studies including 1 030 participants (563 in the App group and 467 in the traditional group) were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the mobile phone app-based interventions group were superior to the control group in HbA1c (MD=–0.43, 95% CI –0.65 to –0.22, P<0.001), systolic blood pressure (MD=–2.53, 95% CI –4.89 to –0.17,P<0.05), triglyceride (SMD=–0.24, 95% CI –0.42 to –0.06,P<0.05) and waist circumference (MD=–1.57, 95% CI –2.65 to –0.48,P<0.05). No significant different were found on any other related results between two groups.
Conclusion
Mobile phone apps aimed at diabetes management can improve HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, triglyceride, and waist circumference for patients with T2DM. Due to the limited quality and quantity of the included studies, the above conclusions are needed more high quality studies to verify.
Objective
To investigate the occurrence, progress and conversion of hypotony in anterior proliferative vitreoretinopathy (aPVR), and to provide knowledge about how to prevent and treat it.
Methods
Animal models of chronic hypotony by aPVR were made with cultured ho mologous dermal fibroblasts on pigmented rabbits. The intraocular pressure (IOP) and ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) examination were taken preoperatively and on days 7,14, 28 and 56 postoperatively.Rabbits were killed on days 14, 28 or 56 postoperatively, prepared for histology and ultrastructure examination.
Results
The average IOP of experimental group was lower than that of control group on days 7,14,28 and 56 significantly (Plt;0.01).UBM demonstrated that trip like echo emerged in front of ciliary body four weeks postoperatively, and tractional retinal detachment was found four weeks and eight weeks postoperatively in experimental group. Microscopic examination showed atrophy orabsence of the non-pigmented ciliary epithelium on days 28 and 56 postoperatively in experimental group.Electronic microscopy showed that the amount of mitochondrions decreased and there were many vacuoles in the non-pigmented ciliary epithelium in experimental group four and eight weeks postoperatively.
Conclusions
Atrophic change of the non-pigmented epithelium due to dragging effect of the ciliary body from the epiciliary membrane in aPVR might be the main cause of hypotony.

PURPOSE:To assess the effects of silicone oil removal on the complications associated with its use.
METHODS:Retrospective analysis of the results of silicone oil removal after vitreous surgery for retinal detachment in 913 eyes in
National Ophthalmology Centre of French. The follow-up period was at least six months and the mean duration of oil tamon-
ade was 6.4 months.
RESULTS :Retinal detachment recurred in 7.3%. The development of cataract continued after silicone oil removal. No patient retained a clear lens in the eye with oil remained in situ for more than 3 months. TWO of 5 eyes with
keratopathy at the time of oil removal recovered after the oil removal ;but the corneas of another 4 eyes became dystrophic after the oil removal. Twelve of 15 eyes with secondary ocular hypertension incontrollable through medicinal treatment relieved after oil removal ,but another 11 eyes became hypertensive after oil removal. Persistent emulsive droplets wre found in anterior chamber angles of the above 11 hypertensive eyes and the 7 eyes with keratopathy.
CONCLUSINOS:Early removal of silicone oil after retinal detachment operation might delay the development of cataract but can not avoid its occurence ,and ocular hypeitension and keratopathy can be prevented by early and complete removal of silicone oil.

The postictal state which describes changes in behavior, motor function, and neuropsychological performance that occur after a seizure and persist until these variables return to their normal baseline, which can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours to a few days. The degree and intensity of the postictal state significantly affects the patient's quality of life and is strongly associated with the patient's rating of the severity of the seizure, but receives little attention in the treatment of epilepsy, and anti-seizure medications prevent postictal events by making the patient seizures-free, or will attenuate or shorten the time after the seizure. Therefore, it is of great clinical significance to evaluate the efficacy of anti-seizure medications in the post-seizure state. This article reviews the effects of the main anti-seizure medications on the postictal state
ObjectiveTo observe the efficacy of different administration of conbercept on choroidal neovasculature (CNV) in patients with pathological myopia (PM).MethodsA retrospective case-control study. From June 2012 to June 2017, 57 patients (61 eyes) with PM-CNV diagnosed in the Ophthalmology Department of General Hospital of Central Theater Command were included in this study. All patients underwent BCVA, intraocular pressure, refractive index, slit lamp microscope, FFA, OCT examination and axial length (AL) measurement. An international standard vision chart was used in the BCVA test, which was converted to logMAR vision. According to the initial treatment plan, the patients were divided into 1+PRN treatment group (group A) and 3+PRN treatment group (group B), with 27 patients (31 eyes) and 30 patients (30 eyes), respectively. There was no significantly statistical difference in baseline data between the two groups (P>0.05). The eyes was injected with 10 mg/ml of conbercept 0.05 ml (including conbercept 0.5 mg). After completion of initial treatment, on-demand treatment was performed according to repeated treatment standards. The average follow-up time was 30.8 months. The time point for curative effect determination was 24 months after treatment. The frequency and recurrence rate of vitreous cavity injections in the two groups of patients and the changes of BCVA, central macular thickness (CMT), diopter and AL were compared and observed. Continuous variables were compared between groups by independent sample t test. Categorical variables were compared by χ2 test. logMAR BCVA and injection frequency were compared by Wilcoxon rank test. Comparison of CMT before and after treatment was performed by paired t test.ResultsAfter 24 months, the number of intravitreal injections in group A and group B were 3.94±1.88 and 4.83±1.72, respectively, with statistically significant difference (Z=-2.182, P=0.029). After completion of initial treatment, the number of retreatments in group A and group B were 2.94±1.88 and 1.83±1.72, respectively, with significantly statistical different (Z=-2.330, P=0.020). The CNV recurrence rates were 38.71% and 13.33%, respectively, with statistically significant difference (χ2=5.074, P=0.024). Compared with prior treatment, the average BCVA at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after treatment significantly increased in group A and B (Group A: Z=5.634, 5.367, 5.532, 6.344, 6.135l; P<0.05. Group B: Z=5.809, 5.090, 5.341, 5.939, 8.103; P<0.05). At 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in the average BCVA of the two groups (Z=-0.966, -0.932, -0.523, -1.759; P=0.334, 0.351, 0.601,0.079); the difference was statistically significant at 24 months (Z=-2.525, P=0.012). Compared with CMT before treatment, the difference in the average CMT reduction of the eyes in groups A and B was statistically significant at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months (Group A: t=4.691, 2.624, 2.121, 1.921, 2.237; P<0.05. Group B: t=4.947, 4.554, 5.290, 5.567, 5.314; P<0.05); the average CMT comparison between the two groups was not statistically significant (P=0.457, 0.871, 0.505, 0.333, 0.798). During the follow-up period, there were no ocular complications and systemic adverse reactions.ConclusionsDifferent administration methods for the treatment of PM-CNV by intravitreal injection of conbercept are safe and effective, which can effectively improve BCVA and reduce CMT. Total injection of 3+PRN is more than 1+PRN. However, the injections of retreatment and CNV recurrence rate is lower, and the final follow-up vision is better.
ObjectiveTo analyze impact of body mass index (BMI) on postoperative complications and disease-free survival (DFS) after hepatectomy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
MethodsIn total, 858 patients with HCC underwent hepatectomy were analyzed by retrospective cohort study. Patients were divided into two groups according to BMI:normal group (18.5 kg/m2 < BMI < 25.0 kg/m2) and obesity group (BMI≥25.0 kg/m2). The clinical and postoperative follow-up data were collected and statistically analyzed.
Results① Compared with the normal group, the preoperative HBV-DNA loading was significantly lower (P<0.05), albumin was significantly higher (P<0.05), intraopera-tive blood loss was significantly increased (P<0.05), operation time, and the first portal hepatis occlusion time were signifi-cantly prolonged (P<0.05) in the obesity group. The postoperative complications and hospital stay had no significant differences between these two groups (P>0.05). ② The results of univariate analysis showed that the preoperative HBV-DNA≥ 104 U/mL, total bilirubin >21 μmol/L, albumin <35 g/L, grade B of Child-Pugh, intraoperative blood loss >500 mL, and operation time >240 min were associated with the postoperative complications after hepatectomy for patients with HCC (P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that preoperative total bilirubin >21 μmol/L, albumin <35 g/L, and operation time >240 min were the independent risk factors for postoperative complications (P<0.05). ③ Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the 3-year DFS in the obesity group was significantly better than that in the normal group (P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that the major blood vessel tumor thrombi, multicenter tumor, tumor diameter ≥5 cm, and operation time >240 min were the independent risk factors for DFS (P<0.05), while the obesity was the protective factor for DFS (P<0.05).
ConclusionFor HCC patients who receiving hepatectomy, obesity does not increase risk of postoperative complications, and could increase 3-year DFS. Thus preoperative improvement of nutritional status of patient with HCC has a great significance.
This paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of radiofrequency ablation from the current situation of hepatocellular carcinoma treatment, radiofrequency ablation treatment, the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation in hepatocellular carcinoma, the shortcomings of radiofrequency ablation treatment, and the experience of the author’s treatment team. For the treatment of liver cancer, we should not blindly pursue minimally invasive and ignore the principle of radical resection, nor blindly pursue radical resection and ignore the risk of surgery. We should choose reasonable treatment methods, let the patient get the best treatment.
Objective
To compare the efficacy of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab and bevacizumab in the treatment of pathological myopia choroidal neovascularization (PM-CNV).
Methods
It is a retrospective case study. Seventy-nine patients (79 eyes) with PM-CNV were enrolled in this study. There were 26 males (26 eyes) and 53 females (53 eyes), with the mean age of (30.77±5.53) years. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure, slit lamp microscope, fundus color photography, fundus fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed. BCVA was recorded as logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR). The central retinal thickness (CMT) was measured by OCT (Cirrus HD-OCT). The eyes were divided into bevacizumab treatment group (38 eyes) and ranibizumab treatment group (41 eyes). There was no difference of the mean logMAR BCVA, intraocular pressure and CMT between two groups (t=?0.467, ?1.983, 1.293;P=0.642, 0.051, 0.200). The eyes in bevacizumab treatment group were treated with bevacizumab 0.05 ml (1.25 mg), and the eyes in ranibizumab treatment group were treated with ranibizumab 0.05 ml (0.5 mg). Times of injection between two groups were compared. The changes of intraocular pressure were observed at 1, 7 days and 1 month after treatment. The changes of logMAR BCVA and CMT at 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after treatment and systemic adverse reactions occur were compared.
Results
At the 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 months after treatment, the mean logMAR BCVA of the bevacizumab treatment group and the ranibizumab treatment group was significantly improved than that before treatment (F=132.374,P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the mean logMAR BCVA at different time points between the two groups (F=0.095,P=0.759). The mean CMT of the two groups was lower than that before treatment (F=151.653,P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the mean CMT between the two groups (F=0.332,P=0.566). No retinal detachment, endophthalmitis, cataract and persistent high intraocular pressure were associated with drug, injection-related eye and systemic adverse events during follow-up. Seven eyes had conjunctiva bleeding after treatment, 11 patients (11 eyes) complained of shadow floaters after treatment.
Conclusion
Intravitreal injection of bevacizumab or ranibizumab can equally effectively improve the visual acuity and reduce the CMT of PM-CNV patients.
