        • Analysis of Peasants’ Hospitalization Due to External Causes of Illness and Death in a County from 2009 to 2010

Objective To analyze detailed records of peasants’ hospitalization and compensation due to external causes of illness and death based on a county’s new rural cooperative medical scheme (NRCMS) from 2009 to 2010. Methods We systematically acquired the relevant record data of all inpatients via the management information system of NRCMS in this county. According to ICD-10 coding, we categorized and divided diseases into groups in basis of discharge diagnosis of each inpatient. Data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0. Results Inpatients due to external causes of illness and death who participated in the NRCMS accounted for 17.4% (7 913/45 432) of the total inpatient person-time in 2009 and 20.7% (12 568/60 643) in 2010. External causes of illness and death ranked the first in the hospitalization disease spectrum, which mainly were animal bites and accidental injuries. About 20% of their hospitalization expense was compensated by the NRCMS. More than half of the inpatients could be hospitalized for the treatment in the county township health center (59.6% in 2009 and 66.8% in 2010). Conclusion The result of this study indicates that external causes of illness and death including animal bites and accidental injuries have been a major health problem that peasants in this county face.

        • Epidemiological Analysis on Injury-Related Deaths of Residents in Zigong City from 2001 to 2009

Objective To analyze the causes of injury-related deaths of permanent residents in Zigong city, so as to provide scientific references for the prevention and control of injury deaths and for putting forward to relevant health policies as well. Methods Based on the death surveillance data of Zigong from 2001 to 2009, following indicators were analyzed, such as cause specific mortality, age specific mortality and potential years of life lost (PYLL). Results An accumulative total of 10 957 people died of injury from 2001 to 2009, and the crude mortality was 38.13/100 thousands, while the standardized mortality was 36.07/100 thousands. The highest mortality was at the age of more than 65 years of age. The first six injury death causes were as follows: drowning, transport accidents except motor vehicle, suicide, motor vehicle accidents, accidental falling and accidental poisoning. The PYLL of injury death was 334 325.50 person year, APYLL was 34.67 year, and the PYLL rate was 11.63‰ which was higher in male than that of female. Conclusion The epidemiological analysis of injury-related deaths shows an ascending trend, which is the main reason resulting in the loss of residents’ life. Injury has become one of the most serious problems of public health, and it should be prevented and controlled by formulating effective measures and strategies aiming at the injury death spectrum and the target population of Zigong city.

        • Current researches on PARP inhibitors and its treatment of germline BRCA mutated breast cancer

ObjectiveTo summarize functions and mechanisms of poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors and its application in germline BRCA mutated breast cancer.MethodThe literatures about the PARP inhibitors and their applications in the treatment of germline BRCA mutated breast cancer at home and abroad in recent years were collected to make a review.ResultsAs a DNA repair enzyme, the PARP played an important role in the DNA repair pathway. Based on this mechanism, the PARP inhibitors had been developed and widely used in the clinic. On the other hand, the previous studies had shown that the PARP inhibitors marked the synthetic lethal effect in the cancers with homologous recombination deficiency mechanism. By inhibiting the PARP activity in the tumor cells with BRCA mutation, all the DNA damage repair pathways were blocked, which could induce the cell apoptosis or increase the sensitivity of tumor cells to chemoradiotherapy, resulting in the cell death.ConclusionIn patients with germline BRCA mutated breast cancer, PARP inhibitors can selectively kill breast cancer cells and show a high potential for individualized treatment.

        • Economic evaluation of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in advanced gastric cancer:a systematic review

ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate pharmacoeconomic studies on Programmed cell death-1/Programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) inhibitors for advanced gastric cancer (GC) globally, providing evidence for healthcare policy formulation and clinical decision-making. MethodsWe conducted electronic searches in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Embase, CNKI, WanFang Data, and VIP databases, retrieving relevant literature published from inception to February 2025. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed study quality using the CHEERS 2022 checklist. We systematically summarized and analyzed the basic characteristics, model structures, methodological approaches, and economic outcomes of the included studies through inductive analysis. ResultsA total of 15 studies were included, with overall good quality. All included studies employed cost-utility analyses, among which 9 utilized partitioned survival models and 6 adopted Markov models. Direct medical costs were used as the cost calculation basis in all studies. Economic evaluations showed that most PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors combined with chemotherapy were not cost-effective compared with chemotherapy alone. However, in patients with high PD-L1 expression, PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor-based combination therapy demonstrated cost-effectiveness for advanced gastric cancer treatment. ConclusionThe economic viability of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor-based combination therapy for advanced GC varies significantly across regions due to drug pricing, economic status, and national contexts. Although most current regimens are not cost-effective, their clinical efficacy advantages suggest substantial future potential. Reducing drug prices is recommended to enhance drug accessibility in China.

        • Photoreceptor cell apoptosis of rat’s retina induced by N-methyi-N-nitrosourea

Objective To investigate the mechanism of the toxic effect of N methyl N-nitrosourea (MNU) on photoreceptor cell apoptosis of rat’s retina. Methods Thirty 50-day-old female Sprague-Dawley ( SD ) rats were intraperitoneally injected with MNU (60 mg/kg) and were put to death by dislocation of cervical vertebra 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours and 7 days after the injection, respectively. The photoreceptor cell apoptosis was detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) and transmission electron microscope. The expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), vimentin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) was detected at different time after injection by immunohistochemical methods. Results The apoptotic index of the retina in the posterior pole was (33. 6±2. 3), (46. 5±5. 7), (20. 1±5. 3), (8. 2±3. 6) and (2. 5±1. 3~//oo at the 12th,24th, 48 th, and 72nd hour and on the 7th day, respectively, after injection. Karyopyknosis was found in most photoreeeptor cells 24 hours after injection. The expression of PCNA was found in internal granularlayer and between internal granular layer and choroid 24 hours after injection, reached the peak after 72 hours, and reduced obviously after 7 days. The positive expression of GFAP and vimentin was found in internal and external granular layer 24 hours after injection, reached the peak after 72 hours, and reducedobviously after 7 days. Conclusion MNU may selectively lead the photoreceptor cell apoptosis and proliferation of Mvller cells.
