Objective
To investigate the visionrelated quality of life (VRQoL) of patients with monocular rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) before and after relative surgery, and analyze its influencing factors.
Methods
A total of 92 patients with monocular RRD were asked to complete the Chinese-version low vision quality of life questionnaire (CLVQOL) preoperatively and at the end of the follow-up time.
Results
The Cronbach alpha; coefficient of the questionnaire was more than 0.7. The lowest scores were at the item of quot;adjustive abilityquot; before the surgery, and the scores of the questionnaires were significantly higher at the end of the follow-up time. The item whose score changed most caused by the surgery was quot;adjustive abilityquot;. The visual acuity in RRD eyes before the operation and the changes of the visual acuity was the chief independent risk factor of the questionnaire score before surgery and the changes of scores due to surgery, respectively.
Conclusions
CLVQOL can be used to assess the VRQoL of patients with monocular RRD after surgery. The qualities of life of patients with monocular RRD decrease sharply. VRQoL, especially the adjustive ability, improves obviously after operation, but the patient would be inconvenient for doing some precision work or daily house work. Improving the visual acuity of the RRD eye, giving early surgery and avoiding complications help to improve the VRQoL of the patients with monocular RRD.

Objective To observe the clinical features of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in Chinese patients. Methods Nine cases (9 eyes ) were examined with fundus examination, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and indocyanine green angiography angiography (ICGA).Results FFA and ICGA showed the branching vascular networks (7 cases) and polyplike dilation at terminals of branches (9 cases), which mainly located in macular area (8 cases) and in peripapillary area (1 case), and which accompanied hemorrhagic or serous pigment epithelial detachment in 7 cases, and 4 of 7 cases had a significant horizontal black-white damarcation line. It definitely differed from fine choroidal neovascularization (CNV).Conclusion PCV in Chinese patients has the cardinal clinical features, i.e., polyplike lesions located mainly in macular area and most cases accompanied by hemorrhagic or serous pigment epithelium detachment. Objective To investigate the effect of cholecystectomy on the induction of large intestine cancer and its mechanism. Methods After cholecystectomy, the large intestine neoplasm in mice was induced with dimethylhydrazine(DMH).The histogenesis and growth pattern of large intestine cancer were observed. The Sphase fraction (SPF) of epithelium cells in large intestine mucosa was determined using flow cytometry. Before and after operation, the feces of mice were collected to determine the cholic acid (CA), chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), deoxycholic acid (DCA) and lithocholic acid (LCA) concentration by highperformance liquid chromatography. Results The average number of large intestine neoplasms per mouse, percentage of large intestine adenomas in examined mice and SPF of experimental group were significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.05). The fecal LCA concentration in postcholecystectomy was significantly higher than that in precholecystectomy and in sham operation group (P=0.00). Conclusion The large intestine neoplasm of mice induced by DMH is increased and the proliferation of epithelium cell in large intestine mucosa is increased after cholecystectomy. This suggests that cholecystectomy has promoting effect on induction of large intestine neoplasm in mice. The gut may deal with the increased secondary bile acid(LCA) concentration postcholecystectomy.
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical features of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in the thorax and its optimal surgical approaches. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 16 patients with SFT in the thorax in our hospital between January 2004 and June 2010. There were 8 males and 8 females, with a median age of 49 years (1973 years). Laboratory examination showed normal results. Chest Xray and computed tomographic scan revealed lung tumor in 8 cases, mediastinal mass in 3 cases, fibrous tumor in 2 cases, pleural mass in 2 cases, and retroperitoneal mass in 1 case. Five patients underwent CT guided biopsy or thoracoscopy, and 3 of them were diagnosed to have SFT. There was no clear diagnosis for the remaining 13 cases before operation. None of them had been exposed to asbestos. Symptoms were present in 5 patients. All patients underwent surgical treatment with resection performed through routine thoracotomy in 10 cases and by means of videoassisted thoracoscopy in 6 cases. The tumors originated from the visceral pleura in 12 patients, from parietal pleura in 3 patients (from diaphragmatic pleura in 1, and costal pleura in 2), and from the lung in 1 patient. Results All tumors were totally excised. Immunohistochemical staining showed CD34 was positive in all tumors. There was no postoperative mortality and no major complications. All patients were regularly rechecked and followed up. The followup was ranged from 1 to 72 months, with a median time of 21 months. During the followup, all patients survived and no recurrence was observed by means of chest X radiography or CT. Conclusion SFT tumors in the thorax are rare neoplasms and can have giant diameters. Wide local excision is recommended as the best therapeutic option. The SFT has the possibility of recurrence, and careful longterm clinical followup is required.
