The activities of tissue- type plasminogen activator (t-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor(PAl) in plasm from 61 patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) were measured by using chromatogenous substrate s-2390 assay. The results showed that the t-PA activity in the patients with RVO were decreased (1.69plusmn;0. 56IU/ml, P<0.01) and PAI activity increased (8.80plusmn;1.60AU/ml, P<0. 01) comparing with health subjects 2.07plusmn;0.40IU/ml and 7.33plusmn;0.67AU/ml
respectively. Among the patients, t-PA activity in the patients with ischemic retinopathy was more obviously decreased (1.35plusmn;0.43IU/ml, P<0.01) and the activity of PAI was increased (9.35plusmn;1.37AU/mi) comparing with those patients suffering from nonischemic retinopathy (the activities of t-PA and PAI were 1.92 + 0.53IU/ml and 8.42plusmn;1.29AU/ml respectively, Plt;0.01). In addition, these changes were getting more obvious with the degree of severity of the disease. These
results indicated that there was disorder in the balance between t-PA and PAI in patients with RVO,which my play an important role in the course of occurrence and development of RVO, especially in ischemic type.

Objective
To assess the effectiveness of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) for the treatment of central exudative chorioretinopathy.
Methods
Tweenty-nine eyes with central exudative chorioretinopathy were treated with Iris 810 nm diode laser TTT. The laser beam size was 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0 mm with power settings between 80-300 mW and treatment time 60 sec. The follow up periods were wihzin 4-40 weeks. The therapeutic effect was accessed by visual acuity examination, dinect ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein or indocyanine green angiography.
Results
The visual acuity improved in 8 eyes (28%), remained no change in 19 eyes (65%) and decreased in 2 eyes (7%). Choroidal neovascularization were closed in 12 eyes in fundus angiography. The symptoms alleviated in 10 patients.
Conclusion
Transpupillary thermotherapy is a potential treatment for the central exudative chorioretinopathy.

PURPOSE:To investigate the effect of the retinal ganglion cell on the origin of the scotopic threshold response(STR)of the cat and human electroretinogram. METHODS:An optic atrophy model was established in cats with retinal photocoagulation around the optic disc. The STR and flash visual evoked potentials(FVEP)were recorded from 18 cases(24 eyes)of normal human,6 cases of the optic atrophy patients,6 cases of normal cats and 4 cases of retinal photocoagulating cats in 4, 8 and 16 weeks after retinal photocoagulation. In addition, ganglion cells were observated in 8 and 16 weeks after retinal photocoagulation using light and electron microscopes. RESULTS :The pathologic changes after retinal photocoagulation verify secondary atrophy of ganglion cells. STR was normal and FVEP was not recorded in cats of retinal photocoagulation and patients with optic atrophy. CONCLUSION :Retinal ganglion cell loss does not abolish the cat and human STR.There is no effect of ganglion cell on the origin of STR.

Objective
To observe the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), its tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP-1), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and contents of nitric oxide (NO) in the ocular tissues of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with endotoxin induced uveitis(EIU).
Methods
Ninety SD rats were randomly divided into experimental (81 rats) and control group (9 rats). The model of EIU was induced in rats in experimental group by injecting with lipoplysaccharide (LPS) 200 μl into the hind feet pads, while the rats in the control group were not injected. Nine rats were executed 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 48, 72, 96 hours and 7 days, respectively, after injecting with LPS; the NO content and concentration of protein in the aqueous humor in blood plasma, aqueous humor, and uveal tissues were detected. The expressions of MMP-9, TIMP-1 and iNOS in the ocular tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the average absorbance (A) value was evaluated by computer medical image analysis system.
Results
iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expressed in the epithelial cells of iris and ciliary body and exudated inflammatory cells of rats. The concentration of protein in the aqueous humor, the contents of NO in blood plasma, aqueous humor, and uveal tissues, and A value of MMP-9 had obvious relativity with the inflammatory extent, while no positive correlation was found between the inflammatory extent and the A value of iNOS and TIMP-1. Expression of iNOS was found 6 hours after injection, reached the peak after 12 hours, and then dropped gradually. The expression of TIMP-1 could be seen 24 hours after injection, and reached its peak after 72 hours.
Conclusion
The content of NO and expressions of iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 changes from the beginning and during the development of EIU, which suggests that NO, iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 are involved in the pathologic process of EIU.

Objective
To determine the difference of global indices of retinal thickness at posterior pole in primary and suspected glaucoma.
Methods
Forty-five global indices of analysis on retinal thickness at posterior pole in every case, including 12 cases of primary open-angle glaucoma and 11 cases of suspected glaucoma were obtained by advanced retinal thickness analyzer. Every index was also compared.
Results
There were significant differences between primary and suspected glaucoma in foveal shape deviation (FSD), foveal corrected thickness deviation (FCTD), foveal fixation corrected thickness deviation (FFD), foveola thickness deviation (VTD), corrected foveola thickness deviation (CVTD), peri-foveal abnormally thin area (PFATN), posterior-pole pattern deviation (PPPD), and posterior-pole abnormally thin area (PPATN).
Conclusion
There are significant difference of morphologic indices of retinal thickness at posterior pole between primary and suspected glaucoma.

The authom analysed the predisposing factors for macular pucker(MP) after retinal dotachment surgery.Thirteen clinlcal risk factors correlated with the development of MP were identified, As the incidence related to various factors was compared with reported in the literature, the most significant 3 risk factors of MP were: the obvious hemorrhage accumulated in maeular area, the macular hole treated with diathernly, and the patient lay on one's back for approximately 2 weeks during postoperative retard absorption of subretinal fluid in the eyes with preoperative PVR,This suggested that the direct or indirect damage of maeular area was the major cause of development of MP.

Objective
To investigate the difference of curative effect of various surgical methods for the treatment of idiopathic senile macular hole.
Methods
A retrospective analysis was made for 86 eyes with stage Ⅱ-Ⅳ idiopathic full-thickness macular hole treated with various modes of operation,ie, single vitrectomy (7 eyes),vitrectomy combined with autologous platelet concentrate (APC) as an adjuvant (40 eyes), vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling (14 eyes), vitrectomy with both ILM peeling and APC treatment (25 eyes). The main outcome measures included anatomic reattachment rate, change of visual acuity, findings of optic coherence tomography (OCT), Amsler grid and intra or postoperative complication evaluations.
Results
(1) In visual acuity improvement, the APC group (80.0%) was significantly better than anyone of the other three groups (P<0.05). (2) In anatomic success rate, the single vitrectomy group was significantly lower than the vitrectomy with APC treatment group(87.5%)or vitrectomy with both ILM peeling and APC as an adjuvant group(92.0%)(P<0.05). (3) There was no significant difference in operative complication and improvement of distortion of vision.
Conclusion
Vitrectomy combined with APC as an adjuvant for the treatment of idiopathic macular hole is helpful to improve both the anatomic success rate and postoperative visual acuity. The usage of ILM peeling technique could improve the anatomic reattachment rate, but the vision prognosis of ILM peeling patients is not as good as the patients of APC as an adjuvant.
