        • Effect of Different Gases and Hematocrits on Cerebral Injury During Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest in Piglet

Objective To investigate different gases and hematocrits on cerebral injury during deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) in a piglet model including monitoring by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Methods Twenty-four piglets were assigned to 4 groups with respect to different blood gas and hematocrit during DHCA. Group A: hematocrit was maintained between 0.25 to 0.30, pH-stat strategy during cooling phases and alpha stat strategy in other phases; group B: hematocrit was maintained between 0.25 to 0.30 and alpha stat strategy; group C: hematocrit was maintained between 0.20 to 0.25, pH-stat strategy during cooling phases and alpha stat strategy in other phases; group D: hematocrit was maintained between 0.20 to 0.25 and alpha stat strategy. Cerebral oxygenations of piglets were monitored continuously by NIRS. The brain was fixed in situ at 6 hours after operation and a histological score for neurological injury was assessed. Results Oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO2) and total hemoglobin (HbT) signals detected by NIRS were significantly lower in group D than those in group A and group B during cooling (Plt;0.05). Oxygenated hemoglobin nadir time was significantly shorter in group A(Plt;0.05). All piglets with oxygenated hemoglobin signal nadir time less than 25 minutes were free from histological evidence of brain injury. Conclusion Combination of pH-stat strategy and higher hematocrit reduces neurological injury after DHCA.

        • Research on Optical Parameter along Puncture Path in Spinal Surgery Navigation Based on Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Accurate placement of pedicle screws is a key factor of spinal surgery. Investigation of a new real-time intra-operative monitoring method is an important area of clinical application research which makes a contribution to planting pedicle screw accurately. Porcine spines were chosen as experimental objects. The changes of reduced scattering coefficient (μ's) along normal puncture path, medial perforation path and lateral perforation path were measured and studied. A conclusion is drawn that there are two distinct peaks throughout the puncture process, appearing at the junction of cancellous bone and cortical bone, at the beginning and at the end, respectively. The reduced scattering coefficient is proved to be a good monitoring factor which can identify whether the screw is about to reach the critical position of the spine puncture. Moreover, the variation provides an important reference for spinal surgical navigation process.

        • An overview on sleep research based on functional near infrared spectroscopy

Sleep is a complex physiological process of great significance to physical and mental health, and its research scope involves multiple disciplines. At present, the quantitative analysis of sleep mainly relies on the “gold standard” of polysomnography (PSG). However, PSG has great interference to the human body and cannot reflect the hemodynamic status of the brain. Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is used in sleep research, which can not only meet the demand of low interference to human body, but also reflect the hemodynamics of brain. Therefore, this paper has collected and sorted out the related literatures about fNIRS used in sleep research, concluding sleep staging research, clinical sleep monitoring research, fatigue detection research, etc. This paper provides a theoretical reference for scholars who will use fNIRS for fatigue and sleep related research in the future. Moreover, this article concludes the limitation of existing studies and points out the possible development direction of fNIRS for sleep research, in the hope of providing reference for the study of sleep and cerebral hemodynamics.

        • Quantification of Liver Fat Content by 1H-MR Spectroscopy Imaging at 3.0 T for Therapeutic Evaluation of Fatty LiverPreliminary Study

ObjectiveTo investigate the feasibility of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) imaging, by which to quantitatively analyze liver fat content for therapeutic evaluation of fatty liver at 3.0 T MRI. MethodsTwenty-six patients who diagnosed with fatty liver were examined with proton MRS at Siemens Trio Tim 3.0 T MRI before treatment and 3, 6 months after treatment, respectively. The water peak, fat peak, water peak area, and fat peak area were detected, and the relative lipid content 1 (RLC1) and relative lipid content 2 (RLC2)were calculated. Fatty liver index (FLI) was referred to the standard which was calculated from triglycerides (TG), gammaglutamyl-transferase (GGT), waist circumference, and body mass index. ResultsThere were significantly different differences of RLC1 and RLC2 among before treatment and 3, 6 months after treatment (Plt;0.05). Compared with before treatment, the RLC1 and RLC2 values significantly decreased on month 3 or 6 after treatment (Plt;0.05). There were positive correlation between RLC1 or RLC2 and FLI (r=0.476, Plt;0.00; r=0.475, Plt;0.001). The intraclass correlation coefficient was more than 0.75 before treatment, the repeatability was better. ConclusionsProton MRS can quantitatively measure liver fat content. It can be reliably used for dynamic monitoring the therapeutic effects for fatty liver. Proton MRS is accurate, and has a good clinical application in dynamically monitoring the progression of fatty liver and evaluating the therapeutic effects of various treatments.

        • Recognition of motor imagery electroencephalogram based on flicker noise spectroscopy and weighted filter bank common spatial pattern

Due to the high complexity and subject variability of motor imagery electroencephalogram, its decoding is limited by the inadequate accuracy of traditional recognition models. To resolve this problem, a recognition model for motor imagery electroencephalogram based on flicker noise spectrum (FNS) and weighted filter bank common spatial pattern (wFBCSP) was proposed. First, the FNS method was used to analyze the motor imagery electroencephalogram. Using the second derivative moment as structure function, the ensued precursor time series were generated by using a sliding window strategy, so that hidden dynamic information of transition phase could be captured. Then, based on the characteristic of signal frequency band, the feature of the transition phase precursor time series and reaction phase series were extracted by wFBCSP, generating features representing relevant transition and reaction phase. To make the selected features adapt to subject variability and realize better generalization, algorithm of minimum redundancy maximum relevance was further used to select features. Finally, support vector machine as the classifier was used for the classification. In the motor imagery electroencephalogram recognition, the method proposed in this study yielded an average accuracy of 86.34%, which is higher than the comparison methods. Thus, our proposed method provides a new idea for decoding motor imagery electroencephalogram.

        • Analysis of paclitaxel concentration in rat plasma by Raman spectrums combined with partial least square

Partial least square (PLS) combining with Raman spectroscopy was applied to develop predictive models for plasma paclitaxel concentration detection. In this experiment, 312 samples were scanned by Raman spectroscopy. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was applied to determine the paclitaxel concentration in 312 rat plasma samples. Monte Carlo partial least square (MCPLS) method was successfully performed to identify the outliers and the numbers of calibration set. Based on the values of degree of approach (Da), moving window partial least square (MWPLS) was used to choose the suitable preprocessing method, optimum wavelength variables and the number of latent variables. The correlation coefficients between reference values and predictive values in both calibration set (Rc2) and validation set (Rp2) of optimum PLS model were 0.933 1 and 0.926 4, respectively. Furthermore, an independent verification test was performed on the prediction model. The results showed that the correlation error of the 20 validation samples was 9.36%±2.03%, which confirmed the well predictive ability of established PLS quantitative analysis model.
