Objective To explore the application of peer education in TB prevention at middle schools in Kai County of Chongqing and compare it with traditional education, and to provide theory support for further policy making. Methods Four complete middle schools were randomly selected as the control group, the peer education group, the traditional education group and the combined group of peer education and traditional education, respectively. Effect evaluation was performed one month later (instant evaluation) and six months later (long-term evaluation), respectively, after the intervention period. Results The instant and long-term evaluation showed that the knowledge, attitude and practice scores of the three intervention groups were higher than the scores before intervention or those of the control group (Plt;0.01). Besides, the behavior score of the peer education group had no significant difference between instant and longterm evaluation. All scores in the instant evaluation were higher than those of long-term evaluation both in the peer education group and the traditional education group (Plt;0.01). For the knowledge, attitude and practice scores, there was no significant difference between instant and long-term evaluation in the combined group of peer education and traditional education. Conclusion Compared with the peer education group and the traditional education group, the combined group achieves an enduring effect. There is obvious instant effect in the traditional education group, and peer education has a long-term influence on students’ behavior.
ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of health education pathway intervention on self-care agency and health lifestyle promotion in colostomy patients.
MethodsEighty-eight rectal cancer patients who had undergone colostomy were randomly divided into control group and intervention group (with 44 patients in each) between March 2012 and September 2013. The control group received conventional nursing only, while the intervention group were given health education pathway intervention besides conventional nursing. The self-care agency and health lifestyle promotion in the two groups under pre-colostomy state, one week after colostomy and two weeks after colostomy were surveyed and compared based on the exercise of self-care agency scale and the health promotion lifestyle profile.
ResultsAfter health education pathway intervention, the scores of self-care agency and health lifestyle promotion in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the hospitalization expenditure was also obviously lower. Furthermore, the satisfaction degree on nursing service was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05).
ConclusionThe health education pathway intervention can greatly improve self-care agency and quality of life in rectal cancer patients who have undergone colostomy.

Objective To explore the effect of applying evidence-based medicine theory to quality management in long-term-system clinical medicine teaching. Methods We introduced the concept of evidence-based quality management system of clinical medicine to the delivery of teaching with Internet-based teaching quality real time supervision system as the core. A special quality scale was used to assess the teaching quality of teachers and the results were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 using u test. Results The system stored 853 280 pieces of data from the years 2001 to 2003. Up to 96.4% (275/285) of the evaluated topics scored over 85 points. Whether the teachers had overseas experience or not and whether their ages were over 45 or not had no significant influence on the teaching quality (P >0.05), but their degrees had influence on the teaching quality (P <0.05). Conclusion In long-term-system clinical medicine teaching quality management, we should apply the concept and approach of EBM to our practice so that we can ensure that the teaching quality of long-term-system clinical medicine will improve steadily.
ObjectiveTo investigate the needs for health education in chronic hepatitis B patients, in order to provide a theoretical basis for taking pertinent nursing intervention.
MethodsBetween July and December 2011, self-made questionnaires on the needs for health education were used to investigate 70 in-patients with chronic hepatitis B. Meanwhile, factors associated with the needs of health education such as age, education, and the course of the disease were also analyzed.
ResultsThe differences in the needs of health education were statistically significant among patients with different cultures, ages, and courses of disease (P<0.01). The needs of health education were correlated with culture, age and courses of disease.
ConclusionThere are some deficiencies in the health education for chronic hepatitis B patients. In clinical practice, health education should be multidimensional and continuous based on the age, education degree and the course of the disease.
Objective To investigate the villagers’ cognitive degree of health knowledge in Gaolan county, Gansu province, so as to explore new methods to promote health education and spread health knowledge in rural areas. Methods Through non-random sampling methods, the questionnaires were distributed to the residents in Shagang village, Manwan village and Yanzi village, and the data were then statistically analyzed by using Epidata 3.1 and Excel 2003 softwares. Results A total of 290 questionnaires were distributed and retrieved with 100% valid rate. Only 23% of the surveyed had physical examination in the last one year; 75% thought they were lack of health knowledge; 92% would like to obtain health knowledge in regular; 86% thought lack of health knowledge was the reason of their or their relatives’ diseases; 74% obtained health knowledge by watching TV; 59% went to their village clinic first when suffering from mild symptoms of common diseases; and only 6% did exercises in their leisure time. Conclusion Most people in rural areas don’t pay enough attention to their health condition and are lack of high-quality health knowledge resources as well as consciousness of physical training. So it is not only necessary to strengthen health education, but also urgent to promote physical and mental health education in rural areas.
The cultivation of clinical medical postgraduates is a way to provide qualified doctors for clinical practice, which is more focused on clinical practice. The cultivation of clinical medical postgraduates depends on their understanding of knowledge. In response to the problems existing in traditional education, the Department of Vascular Surgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University has introduced new media into the cultivation of clinical medical postgraduates. Objective To explore teaching effects of case-based learning (CBL) in abdominal physical examination in diagnostics. Methods Among 83 undergraduates in grade 2007 and in major of 8-year clinical medicine were randomly divided into two groups. Under the same conditions, 41 in the CBL group were taught with CBL method, while the other 42 in the control group were taught with traditional teaching method. Their scores in standard patient (SP) practice assessment of abdominal physical examination, examination of abnormal abdominal signs, ability to analyze and write medical records, and right answers to abdominal examination in final exam were compared. Meanwhile, questionnaire surveys were distributed to them after class. Results There was no significant difference between the two groups in the scores of SP practice assessment or medical record writing and analyzing, but the CBL group was obviously superior to the control group in the tests of abnormal abdominal signs and the right answers to abdominal examination in final exam (Plt;0.05). The questionnaire surveys revealed that the CBL group obviously scored higher in the following 3 items: increase the learning interest and commitment, strengthen the ability to analyze and solve problems, and improve the ability to combine theory and practice (Plt;0.05). Conclusion CBL method has an obvious advantage to improve the teaching quality in abdominal physical examination in diagnostics.
Objective To learn about the evaluation of the practical value of resident doctors towards the Global Minimum Essential Requirements in Medical Education (GMER), so as to provide effective information for the usage of GMER in China. Methods Two hundred and five resident doctors of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were investigated by the use of questionnaires. Results The evaluation of the practical value towards the 7 domains of GMER was high, but the “population health and health systems” domain gains the lowest scores. Conclusion The society might ask doctors to use the abilities required by GMER, especially the requirements in the "population health and health systems" domain. It is suggested that the doctors’ performance evaluation system be adjusted by adding the weight to the lower score domains, and the medical students be trained to be equipped with both macro and micro thinking abilities in medical school, so as to cultivate doctors with the "core competence" of GMER.
