        • EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON MICROWAVE REGULATING IMMUNOLOGICAL DISORDER IN CHRONIC LYMPHEDEMA PATIENTS

Twenty patients with chronic lymphedema had been treated by microwave heating. T-lympocyte subpopulation and HLA-DR phenotype of peripheral blood in patientswith lymphedema were examined by using dual colour flow cytometry before and after treatment. We found that CD4 (T helpe/inducer) in chronic lymphedema decreased significantly (Plt;0.01), HLA-DR increased significantly (P lt;0.05). After the microwave treatment, the CD4, CD4/CD8 ratio increased significantly; HLA-DR, HLA-DR+CD+8 lymphocyte reduced. It was clear that microwave could regulate the immunological disorder of lymphedema patients.

        • Nutrition Improvement Measures for Vulnerable Populations in Rural Areas of China: A Systematic Review

ObjectiveTo systematically review the implementation status, effectiveness and existing problems of nutrition improvement measures for vulnerable populations in rural areas of China. MethodsAll studies about the implementation status, effectiveness and existing problems of nutrition improvement measures for vulnerable populations in rural areas of China were electronically searched in VIP, CNKI, WanFang Data and CBM from inception to January 1st, 2014. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed methodological quality of included studies, and then performed qualitative analysis in terms of implementation effectiveness and situation. ResultsA total of 79 studies were finally included. The results of qualitative analysis showed that:the earliest study was published in 1990; 38.0% of these studies were carried out in the southwest and northwest areas of China; 31.6% of these studies were financially supported, and most funds were provided by some international institutions; 90.0% of these research subjects focused on infants and children (under the age of 10); a variety of nutrition improvement measures had been taken, and 55.7% of these interventions measures were nutrition education which could be implemented easily; the implementation duration of 38.0% of these measures lasted less than half a year; 32.9% of these studies adopted the blood test to evaluate the outcomes of nutrition measures; all of the studies showed that nutrition levels of vulnerable populations in rural areas of China had been obviously improved by these measures. ConclusionThe nutrition improvement measures for vulnerable populations in rural areas of China have been implemented relatively earlier focusing on populations in West China where was less developed. However, an imbalance exists in the attention to target populations, especially to the elderly. Face to face nutrition education is most frequently taken; however, it could not directly reflect the changing of nutritional status. In addition, implementation duration is fairly short which indicates that more fund supports are needed from the government or institutions.

        • Correlation between ApoE Polymorphism and Sporadic Alzheimer's Disease in Chinese Population: A Meta-Analysis

ObjectiveTo systematically review the correlation between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) polymorphism and sporadic Alzheimer's disease (SAD) in Chinese population. MethodsThe case-control studies about the relationship between ApoE polymorphism and SAD in Chinese population were electronically retrieved in PubMed, EMbase, CBM, The Cochrane Library (Issue 8, 2013), CNKI, VIP, and WanFang Data from the date of their establishment to August 2013. Literature screening according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, data extraction and methodological quality assessment of the included stuides were completed by two reviewers independently. Meta-analysis was then conducted using Stata 12.0 software. ResultsA total of 50 case-control studies invovling 3 396 cases and 4 917 controls were finally included. The results of meta-analysis showed that, in Chinese, the risk of SAD was 2.89 times higher in population with allele ε4 than in population with allele ε3 (OR=2.89, 95%CI 2.61 to 3.19, P < 0.001); 7.24 times higher in those with ε4/ε4 genotype than in those with ε3/ε3 genotype (OR=7.24, 95%CI 5.11 to 10.24, P < 0.001); 2.90 times higher in ε3/ε4 genotype than in ε3/ε3 genotype (OR=2.90, 95%CI 2.56 to 3.29, P < 0.001); 2.11 times higher in ε2/ε4 genotype than in ε3/ε3 genotype (OR=2.11, 95%CI 1.64 to 2.72, P < 0.001); and no statistic significance was found in the risk of SAD compared ε2/ε3, ε2/ε2 genotypes and ε2 allele with ε3/ε3 genotype and ε3 allele. ConclusionFor Chinese population, ApoE allele ε4 is significantly associated with the onset of SAD, and genotype ε4/ε4 is a high risk factor of SAD. While allele ε2 is not associated with the onset of SAD. Since a great deal of current studies failed to conduct stratified analysis, it is suggested to further conduct relevant relevant studies according to clinical classification of SAD and patients' characteristics.
